material statement

Our bio urns are manufactured using natural plant-based fibers combined with certified bio-based polymers derived from renewable plant resources, allowing for natural biodegradation and a safe return to nature.

The binding material used in our urns is based on internationally recognized standards for natural biodegradation and is combined with wheat straw or wood fiber to support a respectful and natural return to the earth.
All components are naturally biodegradable and free from materials that could harm the environment.

The bio-based binding material used in our urns meets the requirements of the following internationally recognized compostability and bio-based content standards:

  • EN 13432 / OK COMPOST (TÜV Austria)
  • BPI Certified Compostable (North America)
  • ABA Compostable (Australia)
  • Biobased Content Certifications: DIN CERTCO (EU), JBPA (Japan), USDA (USA)

These certifications apply to the binding material itself and verify its renewable origin, clean composition, and ability to biodegrade naturally without leaving harmful residues.

Urns Made from Straw Fiber
Our urns are primarily manufactured from agricultural straw, sourced from the stem portion of wheat straw. The straw is dried and mechanically processed into a fibrous material, which forms the main structural component of the urn.

Straw Fiber
The fibrous structure absorbs moisture once placed in the ground, initiating the natural biodegradation process. During biodegradation, microorganisms break the material down into natural substances such as water, carbon dioxide, and nutrients that are returned to the soil.

Straw is a rapidly renewable raw material that regrows within one year, making it an environmentally responsible choice from both a material and lifecycle perspective.

We manufacture 95% of our urns from straw fiber and 5% from wood fiber. This means we use two different natural materials in the production of our urns.

Wood Fiber
In addition to straw fiber, a portion of our urns is manufactured using natural wood fiber.

Wood fiber contributes additional structural stability while remaining fully biodegradable. Like straw fiber, it absorbs moisture and is broken down by microorganisms into natural substances that re-enter the soil’s biological cycle.
